WK2 Practice B: Steam Games

Hi Transmedia Folks,

I played around in the Steam Platform yesterday. It was a little difficult to navigate to find free games to try out and when I found some that looked interesting, they required a long download time. I can see where this platform would be great for someone without a gaming system like PlayStation or Xbox. There seem to be a good deal of well-known games like Left 4 Dead, Call of duty, Lego, Marvel, and Assassin’s Creed. The ability to try new games without the hefty price tag is appealing but the download process might turn people away.
I watched a few trailers for games and thought that there is a great opportunity for Machinimea in the trailers. You could put hints and teasers for other games or products in the trailers. Steam might be a great platform for advertisers to target a specific audience. Using popular characters from a variety of games to sell products or support an idea would work well on this platform. Seeing these characters on television might be lost on the majority of that audience and would be ineffective, but here the audience is narrow enough to have a bigger impact.
These spots could be seen while the audience is waiting for a download to complete or before a trailer for the next game they want to check out. This technique is already in use on YouTube and other video hosting sites.
