Star Submission: LOF story.

I really like the way this story turned out. It was part of my transmedia story. I wrote the story based on a day with my daughter and my mom.

I read the story and edited the audio on GarageBand.

Star Submission: Ship Video

For this submission I am presenting a video I created for my ship while at sea for weapon systems rehearsals. I shot about half the video and collected the rest from other sailors onboard and from on on the installed video systems.

I edited the video on Final Cut and added Rob Zombie's Super Beast  for some good upbeat music. This project was put together for my command was is not intended for mass distribution.

Here is the video with new music. I found some good stuff on a Royalty free website and got a few samples. It is being used within the parameters set forth by the owner.

Star Submission: Crowdfunding.

For this submission I am submitting a crowdfunding campaign I just ran. It was a little too ambitious in how much we were trying to raise but I think we had a good platform. For the campaign I created:
1) The cover photo of the octopus on stage using photoshop
     This was created in photo shop with a hand drawing of an octopus from one of the business founders, and they want to eventually use it in the companies logo. It was added to a proscenium because of the theater aspect of the center.
2) The Infographic using an online editor. Here.
     This was meant to be a road map to show potential investors of where we want to be throughout the year. In retrospect this was a cute idea but a link to the full business plan would have made it seem a little more serious.
3) the Video and Blog entries on Indiegogo.
     The video was shot in front of the location we want the business to go. We thought that by showing the state of the building and expressing our honest desires to help the neighborhood, we could get some local support. The video had great lighting because of the always reliable Hawaiian Sun, The sound was great because the traffic back in the area is minimal and we had very little noise to contend with. I tried to keep it short because I know that online attention spans are not long and I wanted it as more of a bait to get people to the Crowdfunding site. It was posted on YouTube and had a link to IndieGoGo.

5) I Put out several announcements on Facebook and Twitter.
     My Facebook friends repost a few time and I put up 10 directed twitter posts. I need to do a lot of reading up on this so I can get some more movement.

We will do this again and I learned a few things that we can do better. I think our biggest down fall was the amount of money we were looking for. We found a new location and set our sights a little more realistic. The Video was ok but it will be shorter and more directed and I will dress more professionally. Daily blogs from both the owners instead of sporadic updates then none. Video interviews with some of the parents already involved in the center will be added. We will put a link to the full business plan and timeline along with fun infographics to liven up the page.  And of course the number one thing to do is learn to get the word out. I know y way around Facebook and Twitter but really using it to get a message out to a wide audience takes a lot of work.

Week 2 Practice: Networking

In this assignment I looked at a few conference based around media and Journalism. These are the main areas I will be looking at when I am ready to join the civilian work force. Making these connections now could help foster a relationship that could lead to a career later. Knowing how to find these conferences and weeding through to find the good ones is something that needs practice.

The Hawaiian Media Makers conference was in October and hasn’t posted yet for this year. It looks like they invite a wide range of panelists from schoolteachers, filmmakers and journalists in the Oahu area. Tis would be nice when starting out because I don’t want to narrow myself too much and only look at one profession. Finding all of these professionals in one area would be perfect.

The society for Professional Journalists looks to have a lot of resources. It is a large organization that has been around since 1909. They have trainings, job searches, and smaller communities. It is the most comprehensive community I found. I will be keeping tabs on them. I feel a little over whelmed looking through what they have to offer, but the opportunities to make contact look vary promising.

Week 2 Exploration: Personal SWOT Analysis

Hi Class,

The SWOT exercise is a great way to stop and take inventory of what you really bring to a position. It is not always easy to look at your weaknesses or "brag" about your strengths (for some of us). Sitting down and writing these is a great foundation before writing your resume or cover letter. It can organize your thoughts and really help you highlight your strong points.

Week 1 Project: Resume

Hi Everyone,

This assignment is beneficial because we will all be sending out many of these in our near future. I have a few more years in the Navy but I plan to use what we have learned here at Full Sail soon. Even if we plan on striking out on our own and seeking out our entrepreneurial dreams, we need to know what a good resume looks like. No matter what we do these skills will come in handy when we are trying to present our usefulness to someone.

Week 1 Practice: Cover Letter

I chose to write my Cover Letter for the editing position with UFC (Zuffo). I have a little while until I have to start applying for jobs outside the Navy but it is good to get in the practice early. Breaking the ice and standing out is easier to do with a cover letter. The resume will get across your History and skill set, but the cover letter can get across you personality and demonstrate you interest in the particular company and position.
