Industry Skill Set Analysis

Multimedia Journalist –Phoenix “football”

Master Control Ops – Tallahassee

Video Editor – Boca Raton

Video/Audio Production – Fort Myers

There is a slight variance of job titles here but the mainly revolve around video editing and video journalism. All of the jobs require a deep familiarity with Final Cut or other non-linear editors. Some of the jobs are a lot more descriptive of the specific editing programs the applicant should be acquainted with requirements. The one non-technical requirement all of the jobs are looking for is the ability to work unaccompanied and with limited supervision. They are also looking for individuals that can collaborate within small groups and work cohesively with several other professionals to meet short deadlines with the best production.

Several of the jobs require strong writing and communication skills. This fits with the jobs requirement to be able to work alone or in small groups. The ability to understand the desired outcome and accurately convey any questions the first time will lead to minimal re-work.

The knowledge of video camera operations and ability to create voice-overs is another skill set that turns up in most of the job descriptions. The jobs that require this are mostly the journalism and field editing jobs. The cross over skill sets would allow for smaller teams and the ability to put out finished products faster.

Many of the job descriptions require proof of these skills through a resume and a portfolio or demo reel. There are also requirements for the amount of experience in the field they would like the candidates to have.
